Supporting DLT
Since 1959, Darton, Longman and Todd, a co-operatively-owned company, has published many thousands of books of Christian spirituality, theology and devotion, by writers such as Henri Nouwen, Margaret Silf, Gerard Hughes, Rowan Williams, Michael Mayne, and Sheila Cassidy. We continue to publish an outstanding range of books today, with an emphasis on intelligent, inspirational, inclusive spiritual books, advocating progressive Christian values and representing those who find themselves marginalised, excluded and silenced by mainstream church culture.
Our aim is to publish books that we believe are needed – to help people, to support inclusivity, and to challenge institutional prejudice and abuse. We will not commission or accept for publication anything we believe to be racist, ableist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, or which otherwise condones exclusion of people who have been marginalised, abused, bullied or silenced.
The challenges we face, and how you can help
Since the first lockdown of 2020 and subsequent economic downturn in the UK we have experienced a significant drop in sales revenue from what was already a difficult market. The economic downturn, and increases in print and paper costs and other essential overheads have contributed to the challenges we – like many other small, independent businesses – face.
For these reasons we have decided to make an appeal to all who know and appreciate the DLT list, and who recognise the value of the intelligent, inspirational, inclusive spiritual books that we produce, to consider whether you could make a financial donation to help us achieve our publishing goals.
We know that these are not easy times in which to be asking people for money, and do not presume to know how much anyone might be able to offer or to consider appropriate. Any contribution you feel able to make would be greatly welcomed, helping us to maintain and continue to improve our list, and also encouraging us that our work and the writing of our authors is appreciated.
